Pittsburgh Chess Academy

Like many other organizations, COVID hit us hard and made us pause on most activities and programs. But, we are slowly but surely getting back to normal.

We have recently completed a couple of group lessons at a community library, so back to normal there.  And, we are pleased to announce our popular Beginner Youth Small Group Mini-Course is starting up again in April.  Click on the link below for more information.

We are also starting to make progress on other fronts, although we are still short of students, players and instructors, and are also looking for new partners and storefronts.  Consequently, we are still taking it slow in most areas.

But we are still collecting a waitlist of those interested in other activities so that we can re-start quickly once resources and players are available.

So please let us know if you interested in taking lessons, joining a league, or being an instructor. Note: all instructors for youth classes must comply with Child Protective Services Law (CPSL) clearances, and instructors above beginner classes must be sufficiently ranked by the US Chess Confederation (USCF) or comparable.

Beginner Youth Small Group Mini-Course

This is our most popular offering.  We are now enrolling students approximately Grades 3-6 for Beginner lessons in a small cohort of 2-8 students over a four-week course.  This makes the sessions cost-effective, plus students get the opportunity to play games against students of equal ability.

COMPLETE BEGINNER LESSONS AVAILABLE NOW ON A LIMITED BASIS!

Private Lessons

We specialize in offering private lessons to adults and students in grades 3 - 12. We offer lessons at different levels.  Whether the student has never played before and just wants an introduction to the game one time, or has played for years and wants to advance to the next level, we have instructors who can help.

RESUMED !!

Group Lessons

Many times, students want to be in a group environment to either learn chess for the first time or to improve their skills.  We follow a format of show it, practice it and then play!

If you have a group of students, Scouts, or others that would like a group lesson, contact us!

Chess Leagues

In our chess leagues, students play each other over the course of several months, keeping track of wins and losses, with a prize for the winners in multiple categories. Students are matched up with each other to have the most competitive games possible.
