Pittsburgh Chess Academy

Thank you for exploring our site! We are a unique organization that was founded to engage the community in the Chess journey. We focus on local students - and local instructors.

As part of our community focus, we work with local high school students to give them the opportunity to conduct chess lessons. This is a cost-efficient way of sharing chess knowledge, but also helps the high school student by giving them experience for college applications and life.

Please reach out if you are interested in learning chess or teaching chess!

While still recovering back to were we were before COVID, we are still taking it slow in most areas and focusing primarily in the North Hills of Pittburgh.

Again, please let us know if you interested in taking lessons, joining a league, or being an instructor. Note: all adult instructors for youth classes must comply with Child Protective Services Law (CPSL) clearances, and instructors above beginner classes must be sufficiently ranked by the US Chess Confederation (USCF) or comparable.

Beginner Youth Small Group Mini-Course

This is our most popular offering.  We are now enrolling students approximately Grades 3-6 for Beginner lessons in a small cohort of 2-8 students over a four-week course.  This makes the sessions cost-effective, plus students get the opportunity to play games against students of equal ability.

COMPLETE BEGINNER LESSONS AVAILABLE NOW ON A LIMITED BASIS!

Private Lessons

We specialize in offering private lessons to adults and students in grades 3 - 12. We offer lessons at different levels.  Whether the student has never played before and just wants an introduction to the game one time, or has played for years and wants to advance to the next level, we have instructors who can help.

WAITLISTED!

Group Lessons

Many times, students want to be in a group environment to either learn chess for the first time or to improve their skills.  We follow a format of show it, practice it and then play!

If you have a group of students, Scouts, or others that would like a group lesson, contact us!

Chess Leagues

TAKING NAMES!!

In our chess leagues, students play each other over the course of several months, keeping track of wins and losses, with a prize for the winners in multiple categories. Students are matched up with each other to have the most competitive games possible.
